Photoshop is overkill

If you have a blog or during frontend development, you end up needing a photo edit app. Just years ago, Photoshop was a one-time purchase app, so all you needed was one instant pain to pay.
Unfortunately, It is now a subscription app. It enabled us to get out of version compatibility hell, but $10 a month is a liiittle bit too much.
Besides, everything is subscription lately. If you go easy on $10 a month, It’s easy to end up paying $1000 a month.

Here are the nice Photoshop alternatives I found.

Six best Photoshop alternatives

1. Pixlr (https://pixlr.com/)

pixlr

This is the most well-balanced app in the six apps.
It has a beautiful UI, many tools and an easy-use layer feature.
You can use it as you do with Photoshop.

2. Canva (https://www.canva.com/)

canva

This app has wonderful and powerful templates. There are so many genres like poster, presentation, CV and etc.
And all templates are really nice, you will get competitive document just by replacing text and images.

canva

If you think it’s too good to be true, you’re right; you have to subscribe or pay as you go to download the document made with nice templates.
I think it might be worth it to pay depending on your needs.

3. Photopea (https://www.photopea.com/)

photopea

UI looks ugly, it remains me of using windows 98.
But don’t underestimate it. As it’s obviously mimicking Photoshop, there is nothing to complain about its features.

More than that, Photopea can open .PSD, .AI, .XD and .RAW files.
Photopea would be your choice if you are looking for an exact Photoshop alternative.

4. Fotor (https://www.fotor.com/)

fotor

Fotor has fewer tools comparing with other apps I already wrote.
But it will be great when you want to retouch a photo. It works like Lightroom rather Photoshop.

Workspace is a bit tight because of ads on the top, bottom and right side.

5. befunky (https://www.befunky.com/)

befunky

befunky is also great for photo retouch.
Nice UI and easy-to-use. Personaly, I would choose befunky to retouch a photo.

6. Polarr (https://photoeditor.polarr.co/)

polarr

Lastly, Polarr has the fewest tools but the best photo filters.
When you just want to put a nice and fancy filter on your photo, I think this is the choice.

My best app

I usually use Pixlr. It’s a nice UI and easy-to-use, there is nothing to complain about particularly.
Adobe XD or Figma comes to the second choice when I need to make a serious design.

But when it comes to photo retouch, I would use befunky or Polarr.
It’s up to you, though.
